Philosophy

Asheen is an exploration of tension in liminal space—a meditation on synergy and the transition between enduring stone and ethereal light. This ethos is defined by the elemental union of gypsum and resin: a poetic dialogue driven by the friction between the density of the earth and the translucence of the atmosphere. By anchoring each creation in Ash—a matte gypsum foundation—I pay homage to the raw resilience of the volcanic landscape of Iceland. Gypsum is chosen for its precision and sculptural plasticity, providing a tactile, sun-bleached silence that serves as the bedrock of the work; it is raw matter waiting to be guided into shape.

Rising from this terrestrial weight is the Sheen, achieved through the technical use of lustrous polymers. Here, resin transcends its formal application to project light, mirroring the refractive brilliance of glacial ice and the highland colors that bleed into the skies. It is in this liminal space, where mineral strength mingles with the pulse of northern light, that raw possibilities emerge as meaningful expressions and transition into intentional forms.
